 At PSW, we believe that with the right support, every individual can live a more independent and self-directed life. Our Independent Living Support services are designed to help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities build the skills they need to live safely, confidently, and meaningfully, whether they live independently or are working toward that goal.

From managing daily routines to navigating the community, our trained support staff works alongside individuals to promote dignity, autonomy, and personal growth.

Support with cooking, cleaning, hygiene, shopping, and home safety.

Health & Wellness Support

Assistance with medication management, medical appointments, and wellness routines.

Money Management

Guidance with budgeting, paying bills, and understanding financial responsibilities.

Community Navigation

Support accessing transportation, public services, and local resources.

Goal Setting & Advocacy

Help setting personal goals, making informed decisions, and speaking up for one’s needs and rights.

Parenting Support

Assistance with parenting responsibilities, routines, and child-related resources for individuals raising children.

SSI & Benefit Navigation

Help understanding, applying for, and maintaining Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and related benefits.

Personalized Transportation Support

Staff use their own vehicles to help individuals get to and from important destinations safely and reliably. Whether it’s appointments, errands, or community activities, we ensure transportation support is available to help individuals stay independent and connected.

Who Is This For?

Independent Living Support is ideal for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who want to increase their independence while living in their own homes or community-based settings. Whether someone is just starting out or needs ongoing support, we work closely with each individual to build a personalized plan that fits their unique needs and goals.

Why It Matters

When individuals are supported to live on their own terms, they thrive. Living independently can be life-changing. It offers not just physical freedom, but also a sense of pride, accomplishment, and belonging. Our role is to provide the support that makes that possible, while always respecting the dignity, choices, and abilities of each person we serve.

Our Impact

Each month, hundreds of individuals receive personalized support through PSW’s Independent Living services. Our team provides hundreds of hours of one-on-one coaching in areas like cooking, budgeting, personal care, and community navigation. We also coordinate hundreds of rides to medical appointments, job sites, and essential resources, helping individuals build life skills, access critical support, and live with greater confidence and independence.
