Success Story: Rose

Building a Life of Confidence, Health, and Independence

When Rose joined PSW’s Independent Living Program (ILP) in July 2001, she was a devoted single mother raising four teenagers, three sons and a daughter. Today, her children are grown, and Rose enjoys a strong, loving bond with each of them, as well as with her 16 grandchildren, who bring joy and energy to her life.

Over the years, Rose has demonstrated remarkable growth and resilience. Through ILP, she received training in essential life skills like money management, using community resources, and shopping wisely, all of which helped her create a stable, nurturing home for her family. As a single parent, these tools were not just useful, they were life-changing.

In addition to increasing her independence, Rose made a powerful commitment to her health. By making intentional lifestyle changes, including eating nutritious meals and staying active, she has successfully managed health challenges and continues to prioritize her well-being.

While Rose still receives support from ILP, she is confidently in charge of her own decisions and direction. Her confidence has grown, and so has her ability to advocate for herself and live life on her own terms.

When asked about her goals for the future, Rose shares that she feels content and fulfilled; the only thing she’d like is to spend more time with her grandchildren. Her words reflect the peace and confidence she’s earned through years of hard work and growth.

Rose’s journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with support, determination, and the right resources. She came into the Independent Living Program facing challenges and emerged stronger, healthier, and more independent. Today, she stands as an inspiring example of what it means to build a life of confidence, resilience, and joy.
